Killer Bug Tamed

1 Feb 2004

Killer Bug is tamed by find.

Researchers in Stafford have found a way of tackling the hospital superbug MRSA. They have come up with a special chemical which can be applied to hospital equipment and clothing to kill it. Addmaster, which is about to move from the Business Innovation Centre at Beaconside to new premises on Stafford Technology Park, says the product kills 99.9 per cent of MRSA bugs.
Founder Paul Morris, aged 35, said: "It currently represents only one tenth of our business but sales are rocketing." The solution is used as a coating for materials used in hospitals such as flooring, beds, bins and cubicle curtains.

Mr Morris says it simply prevents the bug from growing. It could even be used to make nurses' uniforms resistant to the potentially deadly superbug. The company which was set up four years ago on Mr Morris's savings and the backing of local regeneration funding, concentrates its efforts on research and development and outsources all its manufacturing. It now has seven people working for it.
