Small Firm Adds Top Award To Collection

7 Nov 2003

Addmaster (UK) Ltd, which is based at the Business Innovation Centre on Beaconside, Stafford, will be employing an extra two staff to add to its five strong team in the New Year to cope with growing demand. The company sells a range of more than 400 specialist additives to the plastics industry. Addmaster was recently awarded the Visa Business Card Award for Enterprise at Parcelforce Worldwide's Small Business "Oscars".

The glittering ceremony at The London Studios was hosted by Nigel Griffiths MP, Minister for Small Business, and broadcaster Michael Buerk. Addmaster's category was judged by Sir Richard Branson on the night, and the company picked up a cash prize of £5,000, which has delighted company founder Paul Morris.

Mr Morris, who is also the managing director, borrowed the same amount of cash from this grandmother to set up Addmaster in March 2000 and had paid her back within three months.

The company is now on target for a £1.75m turnover this year, and has already developed around 450 products.

Along the way it has picked up numerous business awards including winner of the Best Sales & Marketing Initiative at the Plastics Industry Awards 2003.

Mr Morris, who has worked in the masterbatch industry for over 15 years, noticed there was a lack of added value products within the industry.

He thought a company should be developing these products and in turn taking out the worry of how firms were going to manufacture them.

"In the first six months we built up a supplier base and got everything together to make these products," he said. "We now go out as a free consultancy and solve the problems companies have got."
